Basically what others have posted already. Short of major holidays and/or special events, there are no reasons to be proactive. Among other reasons, revenue department is not going to be proactive filing new (cheaper) fare buckets for most routes until around 3-6 months out.
That said, United basically has a lock in that area to/from the US, so if you see something reasonable, book it. Normally, on a competitive route, you can wait out the airlines because they will usually blink first. If you are NOT flexible, sounds like not, all above go out the window. You have to pay the premium airlines demand, especially far out.
For leisure travelers, and those not minting status, suggest having transferrable currencies like AMEX MR, Cap 1, Chase UR, Citi TY, so you are not locked into one program/carrier. Again, however, Micronesia is basically a lock to/from the US for UA, so...
