Thanks for sharing your experience. Have a similar domestic to international connection this month at JFK, and good to know not to try for early airside access.
As a data point, the kiosks opened in aisle 9 (the sign on the Emirates desk out front says 7). I didn't notice they opened until 515 but they told me they opened at 430. The digital desk signage at JFK changes so if you get there too early, you won't see any Emirates desks at all (except the empty ticketing desk out front of aisle 9).
I'm landing in Milan now where you have to get off the plane even if you're continuing on to Dubai. I'd seen some info online that indicated you could stay on but i'm told by the FAs that's never the case.
