The first time I learned about reused canned and bottled drinks was when I saw Coke in Thai packaging on a domestic US flight.

The "incinerator" that I saw during a visit to a flight kitchen was a huge pressurized vat where they boiled the inbound food for hours. Even though pressure kept much of the vapors from escaping, the area around it had a funny smell.
