I’m a 1 million miler and Platinum Medallion, and have the first class upgrade on the first leg but upgrades hardly matter at this point.

I would be OK flying out first thing the next morning, but I have to be in Louisville by late morning.

I’m worried about whether or not there would be capacity for Delta to protect me on those flights. I suppose I could try to buy a ticket for the next day now but would it be possible to cancel that ticket after automatic check-in 24 hours prior?

Thanks for any advice and ideas.
three things worry me for you:

1.) You say you HAVE to be there by late morning. Delta can’t guarantee even if there isn’t weather. Driving you have much more control. Even without weather, there aren’t many safeguards built in (alternate legs etc).

2.) You’re on an itinerary with only 1 hr, 11 min layover. All it takes is one delay and you’re screwed. That’s not a lot of time at all, and since the storm is coming west to east, Jackson would get delayed BEFORE Atlanta, meaning you’d more likely get stuck there, not ATL (or arrive super late INTO ATL)

3.) There is only ONE combo of Wed AM flights that gets you in on time if your Tues night flights are canceled. And most likely, that first 6:15 AM wed morning would be full by the time you’d have to make a switch. AND there’s no guarantee even THAT flight makes it in the night before if the weather is really bad.

tl;dr - drive.
