It's quite a significant factor inside the NHS, since this is one form of food poisoning that isn't well understood and is somewhat counter-intuitive. It can be expensive and resource intensive to treat, and even fatal in those who are already frail. Most people understand about things like e coli and the need to heat food to kill bugs, but in the case of rice you can super heat the rice but it just won't help. Yes it will kill the bacteria but that was never the problem in the first place, it's the bacteria's toxin that's the problem (which incidentally shares some of the properties of anthrax). It's a particular issue in some minoritised ethnic communities since they may have rice with every meal, so the bacteria will be in their kitchens. Usually these groups would insist on freshly cooked rice every time, which isn't a problem, but some 2nd or 3rd generation families may be influenced by European approaches to fridges, social media chefs, batch cooking, cost of living issues, without realising the risks, get sick and may not contact NHS 111 - if at all - until it's very late.
