I'm flying SFO to AKL in BP on Air Canada points, then need to connect to CHC on a paid fare. The NZ website says the international baggage allowance applies on a domestic connection, but does it apply if that connection is on a separate ticket (2.5-hour transfer time)? In other words, can I get away with a seat only fare on that leg while checking a bag and carrying on 14 kg?

If not, and I have to buy a seat+bag fare, can I carry on 14 kg instead of the 7 kg domestic economy cap? I'm Star Gold if that makes a difference.
