I have done this on AY in the past. You can pad your seat with additional blankets and you’ll get something similar to a very narrow bed. It’s not great but also better than a regular Y seat. As to how it related PY, I’m not sure, having rarely flown PY.
I would intuitively go for a PY seat, mainly because you can never be sure that the seats next to you will remain empty.
