The problem with H.K. (and Singapore) is high overhead expenses due to high land costs. The U.S. retailers have over come their high wage costs by increasing volume and hence became more competitive.
I had a quick look at dSLR prices in BKK last week and can't say they were particularly attractive even compared to Canadian prices.
There were a few shops I noticed on Silom Road, on the NW side of the street that seemed to specialise in high end stuff (I saw one that focussed on large format film cameras only somewhere else). One is in the SSP building.
