In my experience I have found couriered items more likely to be opened by customs as they expect you to ship higher value items with them. Also courier companies charge higher "Handling Fees" to claim and forward the applied duty if it is intercepted.

I have been to the Bose Outlets a few times and I think I recall the headphones being the same price as regular outlets. Get the number and give them a call to see what they are priced at. I bought the Bose speaker system for the PC and it was down from $349 to $299.

If you do bring them back an easy option is to just post the box back to yourself (if you want to keep it), in fact I think it is just plastic moulding for the sales pack?, and then use the headphones on the return flight so they start to look used
