Stay 4/3-7

We booked a standard room with extra bed. When we arrived I inquired about a complimentary upgrade to a better room the agent said oh no you can’t as you have three people and the suites can’t accommodate anyone over 13. I quickly pointed out that my daughter is 12 (he had her passport to verify). Then he said we can upgrade you to a JR suite, but no roll aways are allowed and you have to use the sofa as a bed. BTW all of the various suite options were available, but I didn’t push it, as we just wanted a room.

Matthew over at live and let’s fly has a nice write up of this room type and nothing seems to have changed so check his out if you’d like. https://liveandletsfly.com/hotel-sof...celona-review/

Overall the hotel was nice. I stayed here in late 2022 and outside of a few branding regarding the look of the hotel, it was the same.

Here’s what I think has changed since the move to Grand Hyatt
The pool was complimentary and open 10-5 I think

18th floor lounge seemed open to all, if you knew it existed since it wasn’t personed and you didn’t need a key or special access. It had cold drinks, espresso and a bunch of snacks. Nothing to write home about but was nice to have.

Breakfast was plentiful, similar to what I remember before.

Fruits whole and cut fruits and cheeses
Assorted breads and rolls
Cava, coffee drinks, tea, juices etc.

Hot items included:
Made to order eggs
As well as sausages, pancakes, French toast, churros, scrambled eggs, beans, bacon mushrooms and so on

I was pretty happy with the options available.

Globalist tapas 5-7
Beer, wine, espresso and cold drinks
Plentiful tapas as well including meats, cheeses, bread, small dessert items and also a few hot items too. These rotated each day we were here which was nice too.

As for recognition I was given a card to pick a drink option and an in room amenity. I made my choices and by day 3 hadn’t received anything. I picked complimentary cocktails and a local amenity. I asked again not trying to be pushy, just wanted to know what was up, and they gave me free drink voucher for two and then a small tower or chocolates arrived at 9 pm that evening after we went to bed. We had a 7 am flight the next day.

Would I stay here again? Yes. It’s in a nice neighborhood, close to public transportation (bus, subway and above ground trains). The pool was fun and would be a good hang out too. Staff were super friendly and happy about the change over it seemed. They were just getting use to the change in amenities, and policies for globalist etc. But hey it was the first week of a new brand.

Pool deck, loungers chairs and a large seating area not pictured.

List of globalist amenities.
