ibis Ambassador Suwon
Name of the hotel: ibis Ambassador Suwon, South Korea
- What is your ALL status? GOLD
- Were you (or for multi-stayers were you generally) happy with the hotel/stay? NO
- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive? Standard Twin. No upgrades. The hotel was fully booked over the weekend.
- How are the rooms? Standard rooms are TINY. There's not enough space for 2 adults with 2 suitcases. More importantly, they are all INTERIOR and the windows don't open. I didn't know that before checking-in because the description in Polish is INCORRECT AND MISLEADING. It says standard rooms offer a garden view, whereas the descriptions in English and Spanish talk about "views of an interior garden".
It's difficult to explain, but the corridor has been divided into two parts with glass partitions (with something non-transparent glued onto the partitions). One part is used by guests to get to their rooms. The other part is now an 'interior garden' (some pebbles and plastic plants). Nobody can see into your room, but you can see shadows of people walking and the lamps in the corridor.
- What was good and what was bad?
Good:
Location next to a train/metro line.
I spent 2,000 points ALL points to cover part of the stay.
Bad:
Standard room are unacceptable (cf. above).
Very basic amenities. Guests don't even get bathrobes at this ibis hotel, which is highly unusually in South Korea.
The air conditioning unit is not strong enough. The temperature was OK during the day, but it got very high during the night.
Meals are extremely expensive. Breakfast is 25-30 EUR and dinner buffer is over 80 EUR.
- Did you get club lounge access? How was the lounge?
n/a
- What about welcome drinks, welcome amenities or any other special perks?
Welcome drinks voucher. There's no bar, so you can get a coffee, a soft drink or a small beer can from the front desk.
A small bag with 2 macarons given during check-in.
A welcome amenities prepared in the room: an apple, an orange, a kiwi.
- Value for $ or Vouchers? Would you return?
It wasn't extremely expensive (120,000 KRW or 82 EUR), but very poor value for money.
In South Korea, there are plenty of hotels which are cheaper or hotels which offer bigger rooms and more amenities.
