At a minimum they should warn you when making changes to your account that it will result in this lockout period.
And the lockout should perhaps allow you to log in and have view only access?
And perhaps once you call and verify that you actually made the change, they could unlock the account...
This makes perfect sense.
Unfortunately it's too reasonable for Marriott. So far Marriott has shown they don't care if they lock people out for 5 days with no access, and lost business for Marriott.
