I recently booked two international tickets for $2347. The breakdown is base fare $1160, taxes and fees $383, carrier imposed fees $804. For the purpose of figuring mileage and loyalty point numbers, are they calculated ONLY on the base fare? I don't remember seeing an airfare where over half the fare is just fees--if this is the case, the base fare--and the mileage and loyalty points earnings--drops significantly.
