Yes you can only earn avios and TPs on CZ when booked as a BA codeshare, and BA codeshares will only be available to book when you are connecting to/from a BA flight. So yes if booked separately and directly from CZ, you wouldn't earn anything for your CZ flight when crediting to BAEC.

I found this itinerary to be bookable from the BA website if I use Multi-city search:
  • LHR-HAK with a stopover
    • BA0169 LHR-PVG on 23 May 2024
    • CZ3516 PVG-HAK on 24 May 2024
  • CZ8229 HAK-PVG on 30 May 2024
  • BA0168 PVG-LHR on Fri, 7 Jun 2024
Would flying BA0168 a week later so it's no longer a connecting flight mean Avios isn't awarded on CZ8229 even if all flights are booked on the BA website?
