So in due deference to the experts here I would say BA (not BAH) are liable for duty of care expenses under eu 261. No compensation is due but reasonable hotel costs could be claimed afterwards.

I've certainly claimed hotel late check out expenses when ba changed my flight on a BAH booking and it was paid out without question.
