Account Profile Change - Automatic 5 day Lockout?

This seems absolutely asinine for a policy. According to Customer Care, anytime you make a change - email, phone, birthday, saved credit card number, to your profile, they automatically lock you out of your account for 5 days. This seems extremely heavy-handed security wise, and all it would do is encourage people to not update their profile in the future. In my case, I had some identify theft issues, and was forced to replace all my credit cards and bank accounts numbers. Now, I can't book reservations (myself), nor use mobile app at the hotel for the next week. Is it just me here, or is this policy really bizarre?

I'm switching from Hilton (Diamond) to Marriot and have achieved gold already this year and will likely be platinum by June. That just to say I'm new to Marriot, but not to hotel programs, and never seen this before with Hilton. Frankly, as much of a PITA as this is, it makes me want to just book Hilton for the next few weeks, rather than Marriot. I know I can book over the phone, but I prefer to book myself, so I can see maps easily enough, and room rates, etc.

I'm not sure if anyone from Marriot participates in these forums, but hopefully this feedback is seen, if they do.
