For the dates printed on our sheet, the actual club lounge was closed, and all offerings took place at Grand Cafe. For peak dates, they even appeared to have two sittings for the evening happy hour.
Based on your post, I had told my SO that it's not worth rushing to the club, because the offerings are sparse. We arrived at the tail end of happy hour, around 7pm, with plans to take a look, perhaps grab a drink, and then head to nearby "Paradise" (which she had seen on some Korean dating show) for dinner. We were shocked when we saw what's actually going on at Grand Cafe -- it's a small buffet with half a dozen hot items, salads, dim sum, cold appetizers, large dessert selection, and lots of mid-shelf alcohol. It was all tasty and of good quality, and absolutely adequate for a full dinner. In terms of food, I'd rank this place ahead of GH Bali, Taipei, or even Tokyo. Quite good for an airport hotel IMO. In fact, ORDnHKG also seems to have been confused by your (and maybe some other?) posts:
So my question would be: Were you referring to the actual club lounge, which has a reduced spread? If so, can one tell in advance whether happy hour will take place at the lounge of Grand Cafe?
Grand Cafe is the de-facto Grand Club. The actual Grand Club itself MIGHT only be used for afternoon "tea". Readers: Please don't go there expecting a full proper afternoon tea set. It's assorted self serve cake and cookies + drinks. Consult the Grand Cafe hours and time sheet that's given upon check-in.
I don't consider Grand Cafe more than Korean anjus, Western small bites, cold items and drinks.
The days I've been there were pretty much finger foods like Busan odaeng, ddeokbokki, chicken wings, spring rolls, cold cuts, dim sum/mandu plus the salad and fruit sections. You can eat enough of it to have a full stomach but it's just not satisfying to me, IMO. I'm just jaded because I've stayed here over 120 nights and the Grand Cafe selection is pretty much the same economic (read: cheap) rotation. Personally, I'd rather eat at GH Tokyo for the higher quality items.
