EC261 compensation affected by alternate destination?

Hello,

I am pondering a flight change but do not want to elimintate my EC261 compensation

booked: USA-Canada (AC), Canada-Frankfurt (LH), Frankfurt-Denmark (LH)

LH Canada-Frankfurt has a 6 mechanical hour delay, resulting in my connection FRA-CPH being missed. I was tentatively rebooked on SAS , FRA-CPH which was my ticketed destination. Arrives in CPH over 5.5 hours past original ticket.

We had further onward travel planned to Billund, Denmark separate from this paid ticket. For this ? it seems irrelevant if we were going by car, train, or air.

LH checkin agent offered to book our final flight FRA-BLL, is "nearby" in the same country. Great Circle map lists as 137 miles from CPH. It does not reduce the arrival delay below 5.5hours and we are not skipping any shorter connection option.

If we proceed with this change, will we still be eligible for the full EC261 compensation, as LH was the carrier with initial delay?

If anyone can post any reference or real world experience, I would *GREATLY* appreciate it.

Thank you! Hope to pay it forward
