The fact that it had a BT flight number explains it perfectly. Because then from a Star Alliance perspective, it would be credited as BTXYZ and most Star Alliance carriers don't have a mileage agreement with BT

If you book SK8001 it will appear on your statement as SQ351.

You may be thinking of Oneworld, where it is always credited as the marketing carrier flight, but that's not how Star Alliance works.
