As others have said, there will definitely be compensation available - only you can decide if you consider it sufficient, but as you can see, it's a fairly well established amount for this issue.

As an aside though, I wonder if I'd ever be in a position to be able to justify £2700 on a o/w upgrade to 1st - I'm guessing that wasn't an on the day or prior promotional upgrade!
