Last year I travelled to Newark. I went into the TSA-Pre line and my friend who came 10 mins after me went to the regular line. He was out of the security 10 mins before me. Most of the cases Pre is faster than the regular line. That was the first time I experienced quite opposite.
I have never run those experiments, but just from observation that seems to be a rare outcome. But 10 mins extra - assuming I am not running late - might even be worth it for me if it means not having to take off shoes and take all the electronics and liquids out of my rollaboard and backpack
