But my travel partner (no status, wealthy, generally just stays at high end hotels) is worried the hotel may be dated. Is there a better option? I don’t really feel like splurging on something like the Mandarin Oriental, only to then be out in the boonies.
Is the hotel really that dated? He prefers modern hotels like the Park Hyatt Bangkok and also appreciates a nice view, maybe a nice bar at the hotel.
Edit: How generous is the GH with suite upgrades without using a SUA?
My recent experience as a Globalist on a multi night stay was an upgrade to a club level room, so no suite. My welcome gift was 2 apples which was pretty sad. The hotel seemed very busy so there may just not have been any availabilty, I didn't check.
Like mentioned by others it is a bit dated but not bad. On the good side, location is great, staff are friendly and helpful, room is more than adequate. On the bad side, the lounge isn't good, the breakfast crowds at the cafe downstairs are pretty intense, and my shower never got very hot. Can't comment on restaurant quality.
I was considering maybe the Regent next time but the reviews there make it sound like a step down from GH, so would probably end up at GH again.
