Eclipse cancellation by the hotel
Hi, new to Choice (Radisson refugee), so not too familiar with Choice Privilege. Didn't find any information on the website so I through I'd turn here.
Short version: Am I entitled to any compensation if my reservation is cancelled by the hotel due to "overbooking" during the eclipse?
I used points and booked a 3 night stay about a month or two ago for 4-6 to 4-9 for some friends coming from out of town for the eclipse here in upstate NY at the local Econo Lodge down the street from me. They just called me and told me they are overbooked and cannot accommodate me for the 3 days. The best they can do is one night, Monday night, after the eclipse (which is pointless). When I pointed out how convenient it was that they "overbooked" during the eclipse when demand is high and they made some excuse about not sure why the system overbooked, but eventually let it slip that I was the last reservation booked so they have to cancel mine. At the time I booked there were still rooms available, so I don't think I'm last. My guess is that they bumped the award redemption reservation, and I have a local address. So far I haven't seem them make any rooms available at a huge markup, and I'll keep looking over the next few days just in case (not that there is much I can do if I catch them reselling that room for a markup)
I have no Choice status (I believe Radisson status transferred over but expired) and they called me 3 days before to cancel instead of at check-in. Right now my reservation is still showing on the site. What is my best course of action? There is no point in trying to find alternative because of the eclipse. Do I contact corporate? Am I due to any compensation? Don't want to be an entitled jerk, but I would like to know what my rights are in this case.
