Status benefits (baggage, quick check in, lounge, free seating choice) can make an otherwise less appealing flight look like a more appealing journey when the ground experience is also taken into account.

When did BA last fly to TLV with a scheduled stop in LCA?

True, but the flight timing as it stands doesn’t make connecting appealing. It’s too early to catch even the earliest trans Atlantic incoming connections, and I don’t think (correct me if I’m wrong) that any flights from NCL arrive early enough to make an 0640 TLV departure.

It could even sometimes be difficult when BA165 left at 0800 to catch it from a JFK arrival unless things went perfectly and only one or two flights had legal connections to it, if I remember correctly.

Regarding NCL I suspect the Gateshead community is quite price sensitive and would largely choose train plus Easyjet or Wizz from LTN/LGW since they’d have to spend the night in London anyway given the current outbound flight timing.
