TLV is 150 miles further, I had a little look to see fares in August - September. BA wanted £897, El Al on the same dates wants £1355. The next cheapest with one stop was Lufthansa which was £893 - but in a single aisle aircraft - indeed at the end of the scale was Air France who wanted an incredible £2808. These appear to be aboard 787s - but all are operated by El Al. This is according to Flight Matrix.
Thus it would seem that the competition is either charging a lot more money or operating A320s as well. If flying on a wide bodied aircraft to YLV meant that much to me I would have to have to pay £358 to fly El Al. Thus either the price is important to those condemned to fly BA by those paying for them, or if it were their money they have choices. I suspect this flight will be filled for some time to come. I have assumed that everyone here is in CE - I wonder how many are not. Now a 5 hour flight with someone of greater bulk in the seat next to you - that is another matter. If this arrangement makes money, BA will react accordingly as
Can I help you says.
I appreciate that there is a point about fleet flexibility but having a small midhaul fleet of A321s NEOs with 2-2 business seating to serve CAI, TLV, AMM and perhaps other near-LH destinations such as IST would surely make sense. Price premium can be charged for a long haul product but on a SH aircraft.
