I could book a return business class ticket from the UK to Bangkok on Turkish for £2545. If I booked using miles and cash, by using 56400 miles the cost to be paid in cash would be reduced to £2201.
As far as I can work out,
Miles&Smiles lets you transfer miles to friends and family for a cost of USD $20 per 1000. At an exchange rate of 0.79 USD to GBP, this would cost 56.4 x 20 x 0.79 = £891. If I used these miles to book this flight, the total flight cost would be £2201 plus £891 (for the cost of the transferred miles) = £3092. A cost of £547 more than paying straight cash.
Am I misunderstanding how miles transfers work?
