Kimpton Qiantan
What is your Rewards Club status?
Diamond Ambassador
Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes. Very Happy with my stay.
Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked the essential room. Was upgraded Essential Chloe's favourite.
How are the rooms?
New, Big, Clean and Hi-Tech. I stayed when Kimpton Qiantan was just opened. The room was clean and no smell. The TV, pantry and desk are controllable by a remote. They can be raised or lowered electronically when not in use. Quite impressive.
One point to note. Don't bother to book those river view or Chloe's favourite rooms. Either the essential room or go straight to the suite if you require the extra space.
I find the river view or Chloe's favourite rooms not worth the extra money.
For the river view room, don't expect to have the full frontage of the huangpu river. Your window is facing the opposite building, so the view of river is at the side.
For the Chloe's favourite room, it's ridiculous they charge extra $30-40 just for the bed frame and toilet bowl painted in black.
I didn't manage to use the CSU, but heard that for those successful in upgrading, they were upgraded to Chez Chloe Suite, which is not bad.
How was your complimentary welcome amenity?
Fruits. Was offered a cup of tea when I arrived.
Did you raid the minibar? If so, what did you take?
Minibar is free for first night. Subsequent replenishment is chargeable.
Were you offered a Chef's Taste at Dinner, If so, what did you receive?
Nope.
Did you use the free spa credit / did the hotel participate? If so, was it a good value?
Don't think there is spa in this hotel.
What was good and what was bad?
This is the best IHG hotel I have stayed in Shanghai. As a comparison with another similar priced hotel - Regent Pudong, Kimpton outshine it by a lot be it the hardware or software.
The breakfast at Kimpton was excellent, it provides a semi Ala carte experience. The breakfast was much better than the one I had at Regent Pudong.
During my stay, the swimming pool was closed due to some fire alarm licenses not cleared yet. But I think it should be opened by now.
Location:
The nearest subway station is eastern sport complex stop which is under line 8.
The only con is that the location is too far. To give you some context, from hotel to Nanjing road, you need to walk to the subway station which is around 10mins (without shelter). and another 30mins of train ride. All in, around 40mins of travelling time.
The nearest shopping mall is the taikoo li qiantan which is quite a nice mall to shop.
Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Yes, I will return but only after I try Regent Shanghai on the bund.
