BA vs QR
This is not meant to be a true comparison or review or trip report. I'm only writing this as a long time BA flyer - since the days of the CityFlyer Express in 80s/90s. Some of my earliest memories of flying are with Aurigny, BA and Air UK due to me being from Jersey. Those 3 airlines are my earliest memories of flying. Due to BA serving Jersey for decades, and their "extensive" American route network, I have nearly always flown BA.
Anyway, enough of my age and my rambling.
So, I recently flew QR for a trip to Philippines as I booked a package holiday. Malaysian and Cathay did not offer package holidays to Philippines from Jersey, only Qatar for some reason, which I thought was strange as I know QR and Malaysian use TUI to sell their holidays.
I was flying Qatar's Q-Suite business class 3/4 of the sectors and I was very, very impressed with their hard and soft products, along with their service. Although I found Q-Suite not very comfortable to sleep in (too narrow), BA isn't much better, the entire business class product was better than BA's First product. The service, the cabin, the lounges, the app, everything was so much better. BA's crew do care, but only to a point about your experience. QR's crew do care, very much care about your experience. QR's crew actually show you to your seat in business - last year when I was flying BA F, I was not shown to my seat at all. In Doha and London, the business class lounges are far better than the Concorde Room. This is not to say QR's products are perfect. I had some minor gripes with the seat, the IFE and the lounges, but overall, QR blow BA's Club and F products out of the water with their Q-Suite and service. On the way back to London, I flew the A350-1000 and that aircraft was amazing, and the Q-Suite was an improved version from the outbound versions of Q-Suite on the 777.
This is not a review, nor a trip report, just a basic comparison on how inferior the BA products are. If you're interested in me doing a trip report of the Philippines, including a full review of Qatar, I can do one, but it will probably take me several months to write. I don't blame the crew or staff at BA, only the Waterside management, that have allowed BA to have an "average" premium product. Thank you.
