My first experience of the new larger format menus, which are nicely laid out.

A glass of wine and warm nuts after takeoff to start this Qsuite flight.

The poached Atlantic lobster with smoked salmon and crusted avocado was creatively presented. QR's bread seems to have improved in quality of late - something which is long overdue.

For my main course I'd opted for the seared Atlantic halibut with parsley barley risotto, which was an excellent and relatively light choice.

To conclude, the baked plum tart on a somewhat smeary plate.

The wine list was the same as the previous sector.

After takeoff, I opted to have breakfast which judging by the menu was billed as the pre-landing meal - something I wouldn't have wanted at that time with an evening arrival into HKG. Just the seasonal fresh fruits and the Greek yogurt, mixed wild berry compote and home-made granola for me, accompanied by the notably excellent mango and coconut smoothie.

Before landing, my pre-ordered Qatari spiced chicken machboos with daqoos sauce - nicely flavoured, although I was expecting pieces of 'proper' chicken.

To conclude, the incredibly artful chocolate caraway mousse with raspberry crémeux.

A lime and mint upon boarding, followed by a glass of rosé champagne and warm nuts after takeoff.

Salmon amuse-bouche (I wish these were described on QR's menus).

The selection of tapas with garlic bread was a big miss - cheap olives, hard and non-garlicy bread.

The wok-fried chicken with black pepper sauce wasn't much better, but was at least more edible. ex-HKG catering continues to disappoint.

It was another smeary plate that my warm chocolate cake with vanilla crème Anglaise was served on, with the dish itself being wholly unremarkable. Really disappointing considering QR's track record of impressive desserts.

The seasonal fresh fruits upon waking.

Back in Qsuite for the final leg of this trip - a much fresher environment than the ex-CX 77Ws QR are using on the HKG sectors currently.

The wine list was the same as the previous sector.

With an 02:45 departure, I slept for the first portion of this flight and woke for breakfast, which started with the Greek yogurt with cinnamon apple compote and toasted walnut granola, accompanied by the excellent raspberry, oats and honey smoothie.

It was then time for my pre-ordered hand-rolled omelette with spinach and cream cheese - the creamy mushroom was the highlight.

I had wanted to try the Bircher muesli, but all had run out by the time I requested it, so I concluded breakfast with the seasonal fresh fruits.

A good run of QR flights, let down only by the tired ex-CX hard product on the HKG sectors, and the dodgy ex-HKG catering.
