OSL-DOH
December 2023

We were several hours delayed departing OSL due to the aircraft requiring an inspection on a remote stand after de-icing - something I've never experienced before, although the crew seemed to think it was quite normal.

Nice festive menu and wine list covers.

A signature lime and mint to start before takeoff, served alongside a festive candy cane.

Once we were finally airborne, my requested mixed fruit smoothie morphed into a glass of the rosé champagne - but upon request the smoothie was also brought, so I ended up with two post-takeoff drinks, alongside some warm nuts. The nuts felt a little out of place ahead of the breakfast service.

Breakfast commenced with the Greek yogurt with mango passion fruit and toasted nut granola and continued with the hand-rolled herb omelette with roasted tomato salsa - both were good. I liked the festive candle holder, although sincerely hope they are re-used in subsequent years rather than being disposed of.

Before landing I sampled the sweet breakfast main course - the cinnamon swirl with pecan nuts. This really was quite sweet.

The wine list was the same as the previous sector.

A familiar start to proceedings with another mint and lime and a festive candy cane, although this time served in the rather tired cabin of an ex-CX 77W. I like the Safran (previously Zodiac) Cirrus product, but the fabrics and finishings all felt very worn, despite QR replacing the carpets and curtains in the cabin when they acquired the aircraft.

I slept for the majority of this flight, and woke only to have a breakfast of sorts, which started with the seasonal fresh fruits.

With it being lunch time in HKG, I switched to the late night dining menu for the next course - the red Thai curry with jumbo prawn and scallop (yes, just the one of each) was very flavoursome.

The selection of vegetable and prawn dim sum from the breakfast menu was up next - this was decent, and unlike some previous dim sum experiences on QR, was served piping hot.

I concluded my brunch with the red velvet yule log, one of the festive specials from the late night dining menu. This was overly sweet, but artfully presented.

Another two solid flights with QR, only let down by the dated ex-CX product on the HKG sector.
