I guess if having 'your' bin space available to you, directly above 'your' seat/row then be first to board, otherwise, well you might need to step back 2 feet or 4 feet or 6 feet to stow/retrieve your bag.

The issue with "84 inches" is that if I'm not completely on my game on arrival, it basically means I have to wait until the entire plane unloads.
It's not the distance away from me, it's the fact that it's behind me.
If I were in row 4, boarded late, and the only spot was above row 1 (well okay 2 is more likely), I would not care at all.
