A few years ago, the then-director of Strategy under Alex Cruz (a wholly decent man, perhaps that's why he didn't last under that CEO) initiated what would become the current Sustainability initiative. We were all volunteers and one of the things we looked at was changing lights in BA's managed real estate. We did a few hangars, workshops, and then we thought "hmm, how about lounges?"

When we spoke with the team looking after that area we learned that there was an epidemic of theft of lightbulbs from appliances in the lounges. Staff had been checked, and multiple times, never yielding anything, so the working theory was that customers stole lightbulbs.
