Just wanted to share my somewhat recent experience with trying to upgrade EVA B fare through United in early March. I purchased 2 B fare LAX to TPE for June 2024. I used ANA to successfully upgrade LAX to TPE and TPE to LAX to J. using 68K ANA miles. I was gonna use United to upgrade the other ticket I bought since I had miles already in there. Every time I attempted to upgrade, I would get the same error messages, fare not eligible or same name. Since I had no luck, I transferred 68K ANA miles. I would do a test upgrade just to see if it would tell me if that flight was waitlisted or not. When I saw that a particular flight was not waitlisted and available through the ANA *A upgrade page, I would then attempt to do the upgrade on United. It kept giving me the same error. In the end, I was able to upgrade the 2nd ticket I bought through ANA again. So I feel like it is a United issue since I was able to upgrade successfully with ANA miles. I hope this helps. And I hope United fixes their issue soon. It is cheaper to upgrade with United miles vs ANA miles.
