There is one important thing to be aware of though. If you rent under your name and then try to add your 19-year old son as an additional driver it probably will not work, even if you are booked using the USAA CDP code. The way around this is to have your son set up a Hertz Gold account (you can do this through the USAA website) and reserve under his name/account. Then have him be the primary driver on the rental and add you as an additional driver.

Has this Hertz issue with entering 18-20 additional drivers been fixed yet (quoted report was from 2019 or earlier)? I'm taking my 18yo son on some college visits in a couple weeks and he will need to be able to share the longer-distance driving of the one-way rental. I'd rather not go through the steps of creating him a Gold account and reserving in his name (he does have a card on our MP Explorer card that has rental coverage) if I don't have to. The benefit is written pretty clearly -- will they figure it out at the counter/gate (manually noting the authorized driver if necessary), or will we have to rebook the whole thing in his name?
