It is truly unimaginable to me trying to get to 60 nights without my US credit cards (both the 5 night credit and the ability to gin up points to redeem for award stays). I'm frankly surprised they don't cut Europeans a break on the qualification requirements.
I will say that I'm now in the "best of both worlds" being an American (with access to our banking system perks) and doing a lot of foreign travel. I think US hotels are now twice as expensive as the worldwide average for comparable places, whether you pay in cash or points. The USA is now a very expensive place for foreigners to visit.
