It's sad that I should feel safer in an aircraft manufactured in Brazil (e.g., E175), or in France, rather than one manufactured right here at home. What happened to Boeing?

the only sadness is the complete lack of rational basis for that feeling. I don’t mean it isn’t real, but it isn’t based in rationale.
your safety is a convolution of aircraft design, build , maintenance, pilot performance, ATC awareness, weather, quality of food in J, and the input of the Creator. Design and build are way down the list, impactually.
