So to answer my question: It was no problem at all to claim the miles. My strategy was this: First I claimed mine using the online tool. Just minutes later I received an automated email that my claim was successful.

In the same minute, I received a personalised email from the FB-team, stating basically the same as above. I replied to this email asking, if it'd be possible to claim the miles for my wife as well without her boarding pass. The customer representative replied and stated that this would be no problem as she had already checked the booking (PNR) and was able to confirm that we flew together, indeed. I have to say, a very good outcome and great customer service.
