Call in to get this completed. They seem to be having issues with the payment system on the website. I've encountered the exact same issue while buying a different option. But then that option got locked away too and only a call in resolved it.
I did a long chat with them and they were unable to help, and suggested dealing with it at the airport. They see the upgrade request (and at one point said 'it's no issue, you are confirmed in business'), but on further review they noticed that I had not paid. They suggested unchecking in (which I did) but that did not remedy the problem. At this point I can not access the seat map at all, but my seat shows my original seat in PE.
ETA: Checked on this at the airport. They immediately saw that the seat was reserved but not paid for. Quick payment process and situation resolved. For those keeping track, it was
€399 for PE (award ticket) to J upgrade on CDG-RDU.
