I asked them why they did that and explained I wanted to pay in Euros. I was told something like "most Americans prefer to pay in dollars." I responded by saying that adds 5-10% to the cost of the stay, and I asked to fix it (the amount I was being overcharged was around 5% of the total bill). Instead of taking care of it, they gave me the runaround that their system was down, it would have to be done later, it wasn't done later, I had to spend 2 weeks of back and forth with the hotel to get it fixed. For me it was more about the principle of being treated fairly than the actual cost involved. Despite liking the property, my room and the breakfast, I will never stay there again. I have heard of similar experiences such as in this thread which have made me cut back on my Marriott bookings.
Leave a negative review on Tripadvisor, Google or similar. This behavior is outright thievery. It’s the only thing that gets their attention.
Name and shame here, as well.
