I used to be 100% Tumi, but the Rimowa suitcases just glide. Mater of fact, the Rimowa ball barring wheels are so smooth that the suitcase will roll off the airport check in scale.

Further up market is Louis Vuitton Horizon luggage designed by Marc Newson, which is more than the double the price of Rimowa, that I purchased the Horizon 55 cover when there is a chance I will have to gate check my suitcase, such as when flying AA.

Both Tumi and Rimowa luggage are built to last, as you get what you pay for.

Out of warranty repairs are not that much relative to the price of the luggage piece, each lock is $55, wheel housing is $45, fixation of inner liner/glue is $25 (these are covered under warranty). Not covered under warranty repair is frame alignment at $40 and dent removal at $45. Polycarbonate Rimowa suitcases if the shell cracks is not covered under warranty and is a total loss.

Tumi prices have increased after Samsonite bought the brand, that the there is now a smaller difference from Rimowa, but Rimowa is much better quality, as I have many Rimowa pieces.
