You were throwing me with the "empty space ahead to row 39," but now I see what you meant. Yes, you stretch legs to the right, but the right arm rest raises, so for me it wasn't difficult to do so very comfortably.
Maybe it would help to think of it as having a two-seat row to yourself: you're sitting up in one seat, raise the arm rest between the seats and stretch your legs at slight angle to the right.
I sat in 27J on an earlier flight and felt really cramped, but mostly because the video box was under the seat in front. (It's under the seat to the left if you're in 41G, so that's not a issue.)
If it helps, I think I'd still pick 41G over an aisle seat in rows 10-28, unless it were paramount for me to be off the plane fast.
