We drove to the end of the old airport runway - visiting an out of the way non tourist temple - not an old one - and looking from the temple we visited our guide said that the water we could see some 50 meters away was the end of the west bari ( spelling bad ) so maybe this is a justification. But then they could have extened the old runway in the other direction !
Totaly off topic - there is a 10c temple ruin very near to the Sofitel that does not need the Ankor admission ticket ( but there is a new one bei8ng built right next to it ! ) worth hunting out if you have a few mins and a willing dri8ver - they do know of it
