As I recall, it's set up like this:

row 39: CDFG HJ
row 40: CDFG HJ
row 41: CDG HJ
row 42: CDG HJ

so C's and D's match up, and 40F is in front of 41G. the open space behind 40G becomes extra leg room for 41G, which also get the additional storage space under 40G.

Seemed like the person behind me in 42G also had a little more leg room as well.
