That's a good suggestion. I once did this without contacting the hotel, because the reservation policy specifically said "reservations guaranteed with a credit card will be held until 12pm the day following the arrival date" so I didn't think I needed to. However, when I arrived early the next morning, I had been marked a no-show overnight despite their stated policy.
