Agreed, and don't rely on a note in the reservation (when made) to carry through to a field that the hotel will notice. If I receive a "welcome" email within a few days of an arrival, I reply to it reminding the hotel of the matter, otherwise I'll contact the hotel either directly or via Marriott reservations. So far, so good, and I average this procedure about once a year.
