It could even make redemptions using transferred points only available to the lead member of the family account and the members who have contributed points to the family account. Last but not least, flyers with "tons of miles" obviously have more at stake if their accounts are shut down as a result of them engaging in selling their miles.
I believe that they limit the pool to 5 friends and family. The legalese must be substantial. One can foresee some friends and family having conflict over who gets to use the points. It is a nice way to energize more travel for those trying to hit an ever increasing amount needed for long haul business class. It can also help to reduce the many unused points that are out there. There is revenue component out there, just not sure which UA C suite group benefits from more travelers clearing out their points balances.
