Cheap transcons made it easier to earn more miles. Cheap YUP fares made it easier to earn more Q Points. (That's a decent part of how I requalified.) UA's perceived instability surely helps AA somewhat too.

But set against these factors is, by all reports, an overall decline in corporate travel. I would think this is the dominant factor, and would probably tend to keep EXP ranks from growing much, if at all.
