The charge for changing seats is a technology limitation on the Spirit side as far as how the charge from SeatBid is applied to the reservation, as far as which service code it uses for purposes of tracking revenue source. Any company using the same bid product and the same reservations system is going to have similar issues.
An airport agent can move you easily and it shouldn't be a problem. Just tell them you won bids and got seats apart. Sometimes it will let you do it while checking in.
Yes to same record locator/reservation. Appreciate the insight! I tried changing it on the app during check in but the app was also wanting to charge for the seat change. Last ditch effort was to ask an agent at the airport for help and see how it goes. The flight's not too long so it's whatever if they tell me to go kick rocks.
