No QR Upgrades Available for First Class
Hey all. So I have recently had a very disappointing, and so what interesting experience with Qatar Airways. My wife and I were traveling from Mal Dives to the US with a connecting flight in Qatar. I had booked her entire itinerary business class with a layover in Doha. When I had booked one for myself, there were no business spots available on the Male to Doha flight, so I booked one for myself in first class, and planned on upgrading my wife to first class as well. Despite all the reading I did online, and the multiple times I have chatted with agents online, I could not upgrade it online even within a few hours of departure. In the “manage my booking” option online, there was an always a yellow option for this particular booking that said “upgrade”. But whenever I would press on it, it would take me to a separate window that would load it, and then would say “no upgrade options found” or it would say “this booking is not eligible for an upgrade”. This is all very strange because I was the only person in first class. When we came to the airport to check the check-in counter at Male we asked the agents if they could upgrade the ticket and they told us that they were not allowed to or did not have the authority to upgrade to first class and that should have been done at the Doha customer service desk. So when we went downstairs to wait for our flight, we again asked if we could upgrade, and the customer service representative told us that that is something we should’ve done at the check in counter, and we told him that we did and they said that they could not do that. So he called them, talked to them, and told us SOMETHING along the lines of that because we are requesting an upgrade hours within departure, and it takes a while to ship all the food required for first class over to Male, they could not do it last minute. Which sounds very strange to me, because I couldn't upgrade it online at all and never got an offer? There were literally five open spaces in First Class, and I was the only one there. Why not provide upgrade options online? Could I get an explanation please because it makes no sense to me...
