Well, this is a point of nuisance. In law it's the operating airline that is responsible, but in the real world reimbursements come off the original ticket fare. So the proper way to do this is to work out Mennens (see wiki), ask AA for it, and if they don't pay up, ping BA for the remainder via CEDR or MCOL.
